An Egremont man who pleaded guilty to drink-driving and carrying a blade has been handed a suspended prison sentence.
Colin Liam Sharples, 32, of South Street, was also banned from driving for 50 months at West Cumbria Magistrates’ Court on Friday.
Magistrates heard Sharples was driving a Vauxhall Vivaro van on Park View, Egremont, on January 2 when he was found to have 116mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath, more than three times the legal limit, which is 35mcg.
On the same date he also had a four inch kitchen knife in a public place, at Park View.
Sharples was committed to prison for a total of 16 weeks, suspended for 18 months.
Magistrates said they suspended the sentence as Sharples was remorseful, has mental health issues and was taking steps to address alcohol issues.
He must complete 10 days of rehabilitation activity, pay £85 costs and a £122 victim surcharge. His ban could be reduced by 50 weeks if he successfully completes a rehabilitation course.
