More snow and rain is expected today with persistent rain to follow.
Areas of Cumbria saw chaos on the roads as snow created hazardous driving conditions on the A6 and the M6.
Drivers were using two lanes on the M6 through Cumbria after a heavy downfall of snow surprised motorists between junction 41 and 42.
Hazardous driving conditions were reported on Kirkstone Pass between Townhead Brow and Road End.
There was also dangerous conditions on the A6 round Shap Summit and Hartside Pass between the Slaggyford turn off and the Gamblesby turn off was also reported as hazardous.
Today is going to start with more snow warn the Met Office who said: “This morning there will be close to freezing temperatures with snow, sleet and rain in some places. By the afternoon there will be persistent rain and temperature will get up to eight degrees in places.
“As the week continues we expect the weather to get brighter with Friday and Saturday being above average for the time of the year.”
