Lowes Court Gallery at Egremont has reopened with a winter theme, showing works by gallery members and paintings from three primary schools.

The gallery was closed for a short winter break to carry out decorating and re-hanging.

Pupils from Years 1 and 2 at Frizington Community School, St Patrick’s Catholic Primary School and Montreal School, Cleator Moor, have come up with a series of trees, houses and figures in silhouette – all looking very cold and stark in tones of black and blue!

The initiative for the school art display comes from a group of primary school art co-ordinators based in West Cumbria, from Seascale to Frizington via Egremont and Cleator Moor.

Last summer a joint exhibition was staged at Ravenglass station.

Gareth Harrison, for the gallery, said: “It is hoped that some training opportunities for non-specialist teachers can be made available via local artists later in the year.”

The gallery will display the schoolwork until the end of February. The March feature wall will show textile art from Sheila Moffat, Ruth Moore and Sue Cosham.
