Free health checks in a Whitehaven store to try and reduce the risk of strokes proved popular.

Copeland Community Stroke Prevention Group offered the service in Dixon's department store, as they looked to pick up on risk factors.

Early customers for the free blood-pressure check were Copeland mayor Mike Starkie, Whitehaven mayor Brian O'Kane, new Whitehaven town crier Kevin Young, and both Donald and Marie Dixon.

Mr Starkie said: "Blood pressure checks save lives and it's so easy to do, especially when the Stroke Prevention team set up these pop up clinics. I'd like to say a big thank you to Donald and Marie Dixon for supporting the clinic with the loan of space in their store."

Marie Dixon from Dixon’s added: “We have strong links with the local community and are delighted to have invited the Copeland Community Stroke Prevention Project to the store."
