A CASH machine has been attacked with a digger in Wigton.
Police say the incident happened outside the Spar shop on King Street at 4am this morning (Sunday).
The road has been closed from William Hills to Throstles Nest to allow for investigation work to be carried out.
Cumbria Police are appealing for information as officers investigate the attempted ATM theft.
A spokesman said: "The incident occurred just after 4am this morning following reports of a green tractor being was used to gain access to the shop.
"The ATM was not taken during the incident.
"Detectives are following multiple lines of enquiry and officers will be carrying out an investigation at the scene and surrounding areas today and are keen to hear from any witnesses to this incident who have yet to come forward.
"They are also appealing for anyone with dashcam on their vehicle, CCTV or was in the area at the time to make contact. "
