THE opening film of the 21st Keswick Film Festival has been revealed.
The Runaways stars Mark Addy and Tara Fitzgerald, alongside rising star Molly Windsor and ex-Coronation Street bad boy Lee Boardman.
Director Richard Heap will introduce the film and host a Q&A afterwards. Richard used crowd funding to help get the film to the screen, using the pitch ‘three children, two donkeys, one big adventure’.
A throwback to classic children’s adventure films, The Runaways tells the story of three children whose home life is turned upside down. Their escape across the backbone of Northern England with family’s donkeys sees them confront both the harsh landscapes and what it means to be siblings.
Festival Director Ian Payne said: “We have a tradition at Keswick to open the festival with a British film, and if possible, featuring a new director. The Runaways fits the bill perfectly and will be great entertainment.”
As an added bonus, there will be a short film screened before The Runaways. The Curator is a film by Mike Tweddle which features everyone’s favourite from Playschool, Derek Griffiths.
The film will be shown on Thursday, February 27, at 7.30pm at The Alhambra in Keswick.
