A STRING of drivers from the north of the county have appeared before the courts for a range of offences.

All offenders appeared before Carlisle’s magistrates’ court on Wednesday, January 15.

Andrew Wilson Brough, 53, of Whinnow Road, Thursby, was caught by Cumbria police officers for driving a Vauxhall Corsa van without insurance.

The offence happened on November 13 last year, and was proved by single justice procedure.

Brough was given six points on his driving licence, fined £660, ordered to pay a surcharge of £66 to fund victim services, and told to pay another cost of £85.

Nineteen-year-old Lewis James Brown, of Netherfield in Keswick, was caught driving a black Renault Megane without a licence and without insurance on the A66 in Keswick.

It happened on November 2, 2019. The offence was proved by single justice procedure.

Brown was fined £880 for the two offences, told to pay a £66 surcharge to fund victim services, and ordered to pay £85.

Issac Brough, of Irton Place, Morton, appeared after being caught driving a Vauxhall Vectra on the road leading from Hutton-in-the-Forest to Ivegill, to the west of the M6, without due care and attention on June 18, 2019.

The 60-year-old went to overtake a van and trailer which was indicating left but had to go to the offside verge to avoid a crash with an oncoming Fiat Punto.

The court heard that a Ford Fiesta, which was travelling behind the Fiat, also steered into the same verge to avoid a crash, but collided with Brough’s vehicle.

A passenger in the Fiesta sustained a fractured breastbone and bruising to their hands.

Brough pleaded guilty and was given a total of six points on his driving licence and ordered to pay £408 to the court.

Elsewhere, Richard Burn, of Raffles Avenue, Carlisle, broke the 30mph speed limit while on the B5299 Carlisle Road in Dalston on July 17, 2019. The 46-year-old was caught driving a Ford vehicle at 35mph.

Burn pleaded guilty by single justice procedure, was endorsed with three points on his driving licence, fined £128, ordered to pay £32 to victim services, and had to pay costs of £85.

David Henry Burns, 42, of Cambridge Road, Whitehaven, was caught driving a blue Kia Cerato on July 1 without a seatbelt in Workington.

The offence was proved by single justice procedure.

He was ordered to pay £220, a surcharge of £32 and costs of £85.
