Whitehaven Flower Club has chosen Hospice at Home West Cumbria to be its chosen charity for the next three years.

The club presented the organisation with a cheque for £1,000, which they raised from events including a cheese and wine evening in Whitehaven, a bring-and-buy sale and produce stall at their monthly meetings and collecting change in small jars. Shirley Benson, chair of the flower club said: “I chose Hospice for my period of being chair as I feel it’s a charity well worth supporting. Hospice has a valuable nursing team who, along with volunteers, provide much-needed care for patients and their relatives at their time of need.”

Liz Greggains, community fundraiser for HHWC, said: “We are so grateful for the support of community groups and clubs in West Cumbria andwe’d like to say a huge thank you to Whitehaven Flower Club for this amazing donation. We look forward to collaborating with them in their future fundraising.”

The fundraising team attended the club’s first meeting of the year to give a presentation on Hospice at Home West Cumbria and were delighted to be presented with the cheque.

Hospice at Home West Cumbria provides palliative and end of life care to people in the community 365 days a year, supporting patients and their families at very difficult times. They are the only provider of adult hospice services in this area and in addition to home nursing they also provide patient, family and bereavement support services and lymphoedema care.

All money raised stays in West Cumbria to enable them to continue to deliver these vital services.
