HUNDREDS of properties in parts of the county were without power for most of the day today.

Electricity North West reported at about 7.30am that over 500 homes in Wigton were without power.

A spokesperson from Electricity North West said: “A fault on an overhead line in Wigton at 7:39am caused a power cut to 465 properties.

"Our engineers attended site and were able to restore 461 properties by 1pm.

"Engineers remain on site and are working hard to restore power to the remaining four properties.

"If anyone needs any more information during a power cut, they can follow Electricity North West on Twitter or Facebook for updates, see our live power cut map at www.enwl.co.uk, or call us free on 105.”

Meanwhile, the firm also reported that more than 1,400 customers were affected in the CA5 postcode area, west of Carlisle.

Engineers are also working to fix this problem.
