What a treat awaits the audience for Lakeland Sinfonia’s first concert of 2020. Hallé – one of Europe’s finest orchestras, Jess Gillam on saxophone, and Kazuki Yamada conducting. Jess returns after her memorable sell out concert last January to perform The Saxophone Concerto (2013) of American composer John Adams with the wonderful Hallé. Following the interval, the Hallé will play the magnificent Rachmaninoff (1873-1943) Symphony No. 2.

Turin Brakes, Brewery Arts Centre, Kendal, Friday, 7.30pm

The band will show off their acoustic, folk and pop style

South London-based acoustic guitar-pop outfit comprised of founders Olly Knights and Gale Paridjanian with Rob Allum and Eddy Myer.

Their debut album, The Optimist, was issued in 2001 and nominated for a Mercury Music Prize.

Blues Jam, The Old Fire Station, Carlisle, Sunday, 3.30pm

The house band, Redfish, will do a one hour set and then invite fellow musicians to join them on stage for a jam session.

The monthly show will kick off at 4.00pm

The live entertainment is in the concert room and there will be a chance for a game of bingo.

Gaz and Daz All Vinyl Boogie, Spider and Fly, Carlisle, Saturday 7pm

Spider and Fly Bar and Kitchen, Stanwix will play host to Gaz and Daz.

There will be a huge eclectic mix of music, which will be all played on good old fashioned vinyl.

The free event will take place on Saturday night.
