A STAFF member from West Cumberland Hospital has raised funds for its intensive care unit having seen its lifesaving work first hand.

Jessie McCarron, of Mirehouse, raised £500 for the intensive care unit by selling baked treats and crafts. A cheque was donated to the hospital’s intensive care ward on Monday.

She said: “I’ve been there for three years, I work at the physio department now. I see every day who needs it (the intensive care unit.”

And she decided to raise funds for the hospital combining her love of crafts. She said: “Crafting is good therapy for the mind and body and a good social activity, as it gets people out who may be stuck in the house otherwise. Staff are brilliant and care for the patients as if they are family, helping them and their families during a very traumatic time.”

Jessie raised £250 by selling baked chocolate snowmen at a Christmas craft fair in The Solway Hall in November. The event was held by The Crafty Foxes group that Jessie is involved with taking £250 on the door, raising the total for the hospital to £500.

Charity money was accepted by assistant practitioner at the intensive care unit, Louise McCreadie. The intensive care unit will use funds for new equipment.

An Easter craft fair will be held at Cleator Moor Civic Hall on Saturday, April 11 which will raise funds for the hospital’s Henderson Suite.
