POLICE have revealed the number of allegations of upskirting made since a new law was introduced.

In England and Wales, more than 150 incidents were recorded in the first six months since it became a criminal offence last year to take pictures up unsuspecting women’s skirts.

Across the county, two allegations were made between April and September 2019.

The term upskirting refers to the taking of surreptitious, sexually intrusive photographs.

It is punishable by up to two years in prison.

Cumbria police said: “While the number of such offending in the county is very low we can assure the public this type of offence is taken extremely seriously. Anyone who is a victim of such an offence would obviously find it extremely upsetting.

"We’d advise anyone who suspects someone of committing such an offence to come forward immediately.”
