A man caught more than seven times over the drug-driving limit has been handed a four-figure court bill and banned from the roads for 16 months.

Ben Isaac Fearon, 20, of Sycamore Road, Maryport, pleaded guilty to two charges of driving with a controlled drug in his blood.

West Cumbria Magistrates Court head that Fearon was driving a Seat Leon on March 9 last year on Derwent Drive, Workington, when the incident occurred.

He was found to have more than seven times the legal limit of benzoylecgonine in his blood. Fearon had 371mcg in a litre of blood, when the legal limit is 50mcg.

Benzoylecgonine is a chemical produced by the breakdown of cocaine in the system.

He also had 11mcg of cocaine in a litre of blood, the legal limit is 10mcg.

Fearon was banned from driving for 16 months, fined £180 and ordered to pay £1,200 in costs. He must also pay a victim surcharge of £30.
