A CARLISLE resident arrested for exposing himself to his neighbours as he stood in his garden told police: “I had a rash and was scratching it.”

But at the city’s Rickergate Magistrates’ Court, David Shaun Watson, 50, admitted two allegations of exposure.

He committed the first offence on September 19 last year.

His neighbours in Scotby Gardens, off Durranhill Road, spotted him naked in his garden. They believed that he was peforming a sex act.

Then on September 27, the defendant was again seen by neighbours naked next to his home’s patio doors. He told police he had a rash and he was “scratching it,” magistrates heard.

Defence laywer Chris Toms, for Watson, said the case was “tragic” and his client had mental health issues.

Watson will be sentenced on January 28.
