A Bronze Age bracelet found near Whitehaven has been ruled as treasure by the coroner. Our readers had their say on the News & Star website and Facebook page.

Excellent, hope it stays in Whitehaven.

Allison Austin

It will probably go down to London, and be locked away in a vault, never to be seen again! I did a dig at Vindolanda and was told that’s what they do! Such a great find, would be nice to think it will stay in Whitehaven.

Muriel Ann Smith

Having seen this and held it, it really is a beautiful piece of heavy gold. Hope it stays in Cumbria. Well done Bilbo here’s to finding many more treasures.

Sharon Rogan

Chuffed for you brother, thank you so much for the privilege of letting me hold it, it was amazing.

Judith Vaughan Melton

Hope it stays here. In our museum would be nice.

Linda Mcfarlane

Fantastic Billy. Well done pal. You deserve all the luck in the world.

Patrick Walsh

Great news Billy, hope you get some decent cash for it pal.

Susan Groucott

Well done Billy, fantastic artefact saved.

Chris Kirk

Lord of the ring!

An interesting discussion on whether meat should form part of our diet will take place at Cafechurch at Costa, King Street, Whitehaven on January 12.

I’ll eat what meat I like, when I like thank you. Get fed up of non-meat eaters trying to force their views on us, just buzz off.

Amanda Leigh

Everybody’s choice affects us all. The climate crisis means we need to make educated choices. Moral choices.

Bryan Burrow

I feel it won’t be a discussion at all.

Craig Lanchbery

Yeah more like a lecture... If we were meant to be eating veg all the time we would be born with herbivore teeth.

Ryan Kirkbride

We do have herbivore teeth.

Bryan Burrow

We’re omnivores. Our eyes on the front of our heads and having canine teeth are there for a reason.

Nath Dixon

It’s personal choice, end of.

Sammie Hart

Vegans are becoming activists, putting false facts into people’s heads about eating animal products - from cancer to the earth’s environmental apocalypse. Yes there may be an issue there, but nothing that cannot be sorted using science to eradicate these issues without doing away with meat. These activists are driving up the cost of meat taking a choice away. Humans have been eating meat for 800,000 years plus. Vegans are modern era ideal... But at least I respect their choice.

David Andrew Harkness

I can’t help thinking there is little chance of conversation or interaction with people who get this triggered by fruit and vegetables, they clearly walk around the forest foraging for their meat source with their ever so hunting shaped teeth.

Nikki B Burrow

I’m almost tempted to go vegan just to annoy the petty minded.

Don’t you get sick of being preached at.

Mrs Bell

As a vegetarian myself, I care little about what others choose to eat. However, as someone who is vaguely interested in the future of the planet, and is capable of understanding the scientific research available,I do think there’s something to be said for the vegan lifestyle, even if I don’t follow it myself. And I do recognise the simple fact that elderly and healthy vegans are living proof that supplements are not required.

The UN published a vast and comprehensive report on world hunger, with all kinds of interesting facts and figures about meat production, concluding that a vegan lifestyle not only enables far more people to be fed, but is pretty much the only way forward for the human race. It’s an interesting, if lengthy, read, and I used to have the link to it but have mislaid it. Still, Google is your friend!
