A hairdresser has gone to a galaxy far, far away for a customer by shaving a Stormtrooper onto the back of his head.

Daren Terry, 51, sculpted the intricate pattern on the head of Star Wars superfan Kai Ward, who was eager to celebrate the launch of The Rise of Skywalker, which hit cinemas before Christmas.

The Bognor hairdresser was delighted that Kai had offered himself up as a "willing victim", allowing Daren to showcase his artistic inclinations.

He said: "I've done quite a few. I started years ago.

"I had a go at David Beckham. It got picked up in the news, and it just went from there.

"When the latest film came out I did Yoda on the back of someone's head, and now I've done this Storm Trooper.

"I just needed to find a willing victim."

Daren said that taxi driver Kai, 49, "volunteered" to have the hair-do - but may have needed a little coaxing.

The hairdresser said: "It was a bit of both. You get a load of crazy people over here in Bognor Regis.

"He was smothered in tattoos and I thought he'd be up for something like this. It was easy to twist his arm."

Creating the sci-fi shave was more difficult, however, despite Daren's 35 years of experience working as a hair stylist.

He said: "It's a bit like performing a song. You've got to practice before you attempt it or you're stuffed.

"I drew it out first, then did the dark sections and set to work on the white and colour.

"Then I went over it with a tint brush to get the 3D effect. The whole process took four hours.

“After leaving school I got an apprenticeship as a hairdresser.

"It was mostly just to get my parents off my back but I’ve never looked back. It’s interesting work and there are lots of entertaining people.”

Daren added that some of his past designs - like Beckham and the Everton winger Theo Walcott - were less complex.

But, now he has mastered the art of 3D effects, one of his New Year resolutions is to try animal designs – if he can find another willing victim.
