A train which featured in the film ‘Murder On The Orient Express’ is to be turned into a new café in the Lake District. Our readers had their say on the News & Star website and Facebook page.
I remember travelling this line, steam hauled, in the 50s and in 1966 watching TV as it was announced for closure. Near Bassenthwaite Station there were some rail coaches that could be hired as holiday accommodation.

Excellent idea - I think this does more good for the Lakes than that trendy twit who recently called for more diversity, inclusivity and other buzz words. Imagination and enterprise beat bureaucracy every time!

I thought I was seeing things when I saw that the other day. Awesome, I’ll definitely call in when it opens as it’s en-route to Whinlatter.

We’ve driven past this a few times, we guessed right. Truly great idea and we wish you both huge success. Something Christmasy for future years, perhaps for little and big kids. List is endless. Looks amazing.

Incredible what they’ve done in such a short space of time.

A Workington care home has been recognised for providing exceptionally responsive care by a watchdog.
I don’t believe it! A care home that actually have enough carers to care for the people living in their charge. After the horror stories that usually gets reported on these homes, it makes a refreshing change.
Stephen N C
Well done all staff.
Kathleen Winter

Carol Whitehorn

Tens of thousands of speeding drivers were stopped in the county over the last year, according to new figures.
If they got down to Georgian way/ Castle Way / Hardwicke Circus they would make a fortune in speeding fines!
Elaine Farish
97% caught by camera, and considering there are only around three fixed camera sites in Cumbria that means the mobile camera vans have been particularly busy, strategically placed in places where they know they are going to be busy and not the excuse that they are placed in accident hot spots. They are just a money making tax on the motorist again, being even more pro-active since the police budget has been slashed.
Graeme Tomlinson
Just don’t break speed limits it’s not hard. Personally I’m really pleased to see these around, there should be more of them, everyday!
Andrew Axel Foley
I’m all for it. It’s a constant problem where I live, people speeding at ridiculous speeds. So many families with kids say they are sick to the back teeth of it.
Tim Kirby
If you don’t speed you got nowt to worry about then!

Three councils will work together to improve the parking options in Penrith.
Parking is easy in Penrith - three hours free at Sainsbury’s or pay at one of the other car parks. Don’t understand the problem. It’s much more of an issue in Keswick or Cockermouth.
Rebekah Gall
Waste of taxpayers’ money again, there’s plenty of parking in Penrith but better signage would help massively to tourists.
Tom Newall
Never know why there’s a parking problem. Not much in Penrith to visit these days, shame.
