FIRE crews worked until around 2am today as they fought to control a blaze which destroyed a large wooden workshop in the Eden Valley.

The fire broke out in the building about 7pm yesterday.

"It was on the outskirts of Motherby," said a Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service spokesman.

Crews were called out from Penrith, Lazonby, Penrith and Carlisle. At one point, around 20 firefighters were involved in fighting the fire.

The building was well alight when they arrived and the crews were at the scene until the early hours.

The building - a few miles west of Penrith - was destroyed.

It is not known what was in the building, nor what the cause of the fire was.
