Dogs will continue to be loved and supported thanks to fundraising efforts.
A Christmas fair held on behalf of the Penny Jones Animal Hospice has raised £700, which will enable the hospice to continue to rescue dogs and find them loving homes.
The fair, in Dalston, saw stalls selling crafts and food - as well as a tombola.
Lyn Foord, from the Hospice, said: “We would like to thank all of the lovely people who came out to support us, despite the weather, and made the day such a great success.
“The money that was raised will go towards ongoing veterinary costs and food bills.”
The hospice rescues animals from abroad where they have often suffered abuse.
Fundraising events such as the fair are beneficial to the charity as it enables the volunteers to bring the dogs over.
Harry is one example of a dog who was rescued thanks to the generosity of others.
Lyn said: “He was able to be brought to the Penny Jones animal sanctuary thanks to the donations raised by Amanda Kirtley in the summer when she did the Lakes 100 long distance trail race.”
The hospice is currently in the process of rescuing a dog named Silas from Macedonia who was found on a garbage dump with an awful injury.
“To us these precious souls are worth every penny it costs,” she said.
