CREATOR of beloved children’s television show Sesame Street, Jim Henson, once said: “Kids don't remember what you try to teach them. They remember what you are.”

Those wise words still resonate with people taking their first step on the path to becoming teachers. If you’re near Carlisle and you believe you have it in you to be a great teacher, to inspire and educate young minds, then there’s never been a better time to take that first step.

Drop-in sessions have been announced for the Carlisle School Direct PGCE. This premium Initial Teacher Education programme offers enthusiastic graduates a way to ‘learn by teaching’.

Offering routes into both Primary and Secondary teaching, School Direct has a proven track record of producing qualified, confident teachers, who consistently go on to secure posts at local schools.

Jacqui Percival, programme lead, said: “The Carlisle Schools Direct PGCE offers a fantastic way for anyone passionate about education to gain the skills and experience they need to become incredible teachers.

“Trainees are guaranteed a placement from the first week of the course, learning while working in real school settings, and supplementing that experience with lectures delivered by school practitioners and experts from the University of Cumbria.”

News and Star:

The programme has an impressive track record: every student who has qualified during the previous five years has attained a ‘Good’, or better, outcome, measured against national Teaching Standards – which explains why the course boasts an enviable 100 per cent student satisfaction record!

Two drop-in evenings will be held at Carlisle schools, for anyone interested in becoming a teacher, to attend on Wednesday, December 18, between 4pm and 6pm.

For those interested in teaching at primary school level, a session will be held at Stanwix Primary School, in Carlisle.

Anyone who is drawn more towards teaching at secondary school level is asked to visit Trinity School, in Carlisle, on the same date and time.

Visitors will get the chance to find out more about the courses and support available, and discuss any questions they may have with experienced Schools Direct programme leaders.

Advance booking is not required, but organisers ask anyone attending to register their interest by emailing Jacqui Percival at JPschooldirect@stanwix.cumbria.sch.uk if planning to attend the primary school session, or notify Dave Medley at dme@trinity.cumbria.sch.uk if attending the secondary school session.
