PLANS have been lodged for another major housing development in the north of Carlisle. Our readers had their say on the News & Star website and Facebook page.

Remember when the council closed Belah School, now they use the lack of school facilities as an excuse. Shortsighted, and narrow minded come to mind, but that has never changed in this city. We once had a walled city, but they demolished the wall to build a road in front of the castle, this is just one example of the council being negligent, others being Civic Centre, magistrates’ court, student accommodation in Caldewgate - all these are eyesores.

Treble time on a Sunday

“Beauty is in the eye of the beholder”. I personally have no problems with the Civic Centre and think it is wrong to demolish the council chamber. Together they are the only example of ‘high rise’ concrete buildings in Carlisle and as such they should be retained.

Same for All

At least it isn’t on the floodplain.

Bill Wagstick

A shortage of doctors, nurses and dentists already. A long waiting list to get a hospital appointment or a dentist appointment, so that mess needs sorted before any more houses are even thought about being built.

ok thats ok

Well the doctors and nurses will need somewhere to live, so there’s that.

McAll W

No way, how stupid. Already have the new ones on Greymoor Hill, the ones behind the Gosling bridge, more new Persimmon homes. We do not need anymore up this end, it’s already a nightmare - not enough schools, traffic horrendous. You are ruining north of the river!

Emily M

What happened to the new school that was included on the Crindledyke estate plans? As for doctors and nurses, where do you think they are going to live? I think this is a case of NIMBYism.

SAMMT

Don’t forget the traffic lights. No new development in Carlisle would be complete without at least a few sets of lights.

Thunder Drums

It sounds like a much more sensible and sustainable development than some others planned for the city. 86 houses and a school for the kids- great!

Carlisle Lass

I wouldn’t trust the council to run a sweet shop, they closed Belah School now people want the space for housing and there isn’t enough infrastructure. Idiotic.

Jonny Ball

More green fields gone forever more hedgerow ripped out and we wonder why our wildlife is in decline.

steunited

No infrastructure to support more houses. Stop destroying Carlisle.

Human Worm

All this craic about building stuff. And then all the craic about flooding etc. So why don’t they build upwards instead of outwards? If your home is above ground level no floods can harm your property. The land around the city isn’t swallowed up either. Win win if you ask me?

Panhandle Manhandler

Nowhere in their development information says how they are looking after the family of deer who graze on said deer park land.

Natalie Travers

Can you imagine the chaos on that road. The schools can’t cope as it is, the nature reserves... Well goodbye all the nature. The council probably just thinking about the extra council tax. Plus, who would want to buy a house beside the recycling centre?

Emma Harrison

Ridiculous. Yet again making decisions that are unnecessary, building more houses when a lot of other issues could be getting resolved instead - schools and hospitals that would be of use, but nope, the place needs to be more overcrowded. These nice fields that the majority of people like to enjoy their walks with children and dogs are being taken away due to greed. Makes you not want to live in Carlisle anymore.

Heather Wilson

It’s also a corridor for wildlife between the nature reserves. I’ve lodged an objection already maybe if everyone did that it would force the planners to think again.

Tamsin Douglass

Carlisle has plenty of brownfield land on which to build. And has anyone thought of the impact on traffic, air quality, noise etc? Where are all these people coming from to live in these houses anyway?

Kathy Howe

That disused overgrown space was our playground.

Graham Hartley

Who is going to live in all these houses the council has plans for, and where are they going to work, the relief road extension has over 1,000 houses planned as well as these.

Lyn Duncanson

Why build more houses, when lots of the new builds have not been sold!

Marie Beau

So are there plans for new schools and a hospital? Maybe worth sharing where all the new jobs are too.
