Amateur artists of the community have showcased their work at one exhibition, but that’s not enough for them.

The talented group of Cleator Moor residents had their work on show at St Mary’s church rooms last month, and had over 400 people visit for a peek of the impressive work.

St Mary’s Priory Club member Sean Close has been involved with organising the exhibition, and said: “Most of the exhibitors had never shown there work before, and were quite nervous about the reaction they would receive.

“They needn’t have worried because they were all brilliant, and the comments we received were all very positive.”

And with the exhibitors, from 80-year-olds to schoolchildren, feeling overwhelmed with the support for their art, they’re taking the exhibition “on tour”.

With St Joseph’s Primary School’s headteacher Annette Savage delighted by the talent on display, she persuaded the group to share their work with others, and move up the road to St Joseph’s Community Hall, Frizington.

The exhibition of self portraits, collages, papier mâché, felt craft works and more opened in its second location on December 8, and will run until December 13.

Sean said: “We have our sights set on The Tate Modern – well we can dream!”

The community hall is being used for voting on December 12, where voters are welcome to look at the art, and the exhibit is open from 1pm-4pm on December 13.
