An out-of-control dog has been handed a death sentence – unless its owner successfully appeals against a court order.
Jayne Buckley, 36, of South View, Seascale, appeared before magistrates in Workington last Friday, pleading guilty to owning an out-of-control dog, and two charges of her dog worrying livestock.
And she was also saddled with a hefty compensation bill, totalling £6,354.52 for two of the incidents.
The court heard that on May 22 Buckley was the owner of a dog named Lexi, an Akita cross American bulldog, which was dangerously out of control on Seascale seafront.
Magistrates ordered that the dog should be destroyed unless an appeal is lodged within 21 days of the court hearing.
She was ordered to pay compensation of £2905 and fined £80.
It was also stated that on May 30, Buckley was the owner of a dog which worried ponies and sheep on agricultural land at the rear of Seascale Fire Station.
For this she was ordered to pay £3449.52 compensation.
The final charge related to June 1 when she was the owner of a dog which worried lamb and sheep on land at Seascale seafront. For this she was fined £80.
Buckley must also pay a £30 victim surcharge.
