A CHRISTMAS jumper day was held in what was earmarked as “one of the most fun days of the year”.

The Cumberland held its annual Christmas Jumper Day in aid of Cash for Kids’ Mission Christmas appeal on Friday, with all employees taking part.

The News & Star’s Christmas Toy Appeal - which was launched last month - runs in conjunction with CFM Cash for Kids’ Mission Christmas, to ensure no child wakes up without a gift on December 25.

So far The Cumberland has raised £1,950 for the charity, with totals yet to be finalised.

All 29 Cumbrian branches of the firm have been raising vital funds for the charity, which is a grant-making charity helping unwell and disadvantaged children up to the age of 18 years.

The money raised for the CFM appeal will help go towards local projects.

Becky Towns, communications executive for The Cumberland, said: “Christmas Jumper Day is all a bit of fun on the actual day, but at the heart of it is this incredible appeal, which helps thousands of children and young people in our local communities every year.

“It’s that help and support, that positive impact the appeal and the brilliant work, Sara, Katie and the whole team at CFM Cash for Kids do all year round, that really inspires us to get more involved.

“Because our teams genuinely do want to make a positive difference and love taking part in fundraising activities that support people right across our local communities.”

As well as raising money through the jumper day, each building society is also a drop-off point for the Mission Christmas Appeal .

Also taking part in the day was Debbie Shearer, head of first line risk at the business.

She said: “Cash for Kids Christmas jumper day is one of the most fun days we have at work with fundraising activities happening right across our whole network.

“The appeal is enthusiastically supported by our customers too.

“What gives us the greatest pleasure is the small part we are playing in making Christmas happen for so many deserving and underprivileged children across our region.

“The work Cash for Kids does is invaluable, not just at Christmas but all year round and it is a privilege to be able to be able to support it.”
