THIS week in the baby room we have been exploring and investigating the fantastic sensory room we have at Lowmoor.

Babies have been using all five senses to engage in stimulating play.

Activities have included sensory light exploration, calming room scents / dough, exploring new textures, creating and listening to a variety of sounds.

Sensory play is extremely beneficial to a baby’s all round development – it builds upon – the development of motor skills- by squeezing, pinching and by placing.

Regulating emotions by implementing calming activities, scents can be added to activities such as calming lavender playdough.

As babies explore new activities using their senses it builds upon the babies’ neuronal pathways in their brain, each time an activity is repeated or explored again it re-strengthens pathways that are already established without knowing sensory exploration naturally uses scientific process to explore and understand the world around them.
