THE utility company in charge of the Warwick Road roadworks has said that the current section of works could be completed as early as this week. Our readers had their say on the News & Star website and Facebook page.

Judging by the works on Warwick Road, it would appear United Utilities are not qualified to maintain the water mains.

Just how many times I’ve been down Warwick Road I’ve lost count only to see that nobody was even working there at all. Has anybody got a clue just when this mess will be finished? You could not trust United Utilities to run the bath without it overflowing and flooding the bathroom out.

Should there not be cash penalties for not finishing the work faster?

They said all the work would be done in a year. So anyone living / travelling this side of town will have to go through almost another whole year of disruption!!??

Michelle Howie

I personally think that they must say “Right, not had traffic lights on Warwick Road for a while, let’s dig it up”. Coming in from Warwick Bridge side I've had this for months - I have to do it every day.

After months of delays?? With the Eastern Way junction and now this it has been nearly one and half years of delays for residents!

Phil Robbins

I thought when they announced work that it was due to start last January with BOTH sides completed by September- looks like a huge error on programming the work.

Carlisle is full of road works. I don’t drive but my heart goes out to all car drivers in Carlisle. Every corner of the town is dug up.

Maybe if they actually had staff working on the site it would have been done a lot quicker (and FYI United Utilities, workers sitting in a van eating/drinking does not constitute working on the site...)

Hopefully they’ll learn the lessons from what’s gone wrong on the side they’re currently working on and apply it to the other side.

It’s all well and good the county council fining them for overrunning with the roadworks, but it’s not the people affected who receive the money.

Just think when Warwick Road is finished it’ll be time to resurface the northern bypass - but at least the southern bypass will be finished, maybe.
