CONTRACTORS working for Openreach have hit a water pipe leaving some homes with no water or internet.
Some homes in Stockdalewath, Highbridge and Gaitsgill near Dalston have reportedly had no water or internet since about 9.30am.
Openreach have said internet repairs cannot take place until the water pipe is fixed.
A spokeswoman for Openreach said: "Contractors working on behalf of Openreach accidentally hit a water pipe at about 9.30am this morning and immediately reported it to the water company.
"An underground cable was also damaged resulting in a loss of internet services to some people in the vicinity.
"Our engineers are on site but cannot complete repairs to the cable until the water pipe is fixed.
"We are very sorry for the inconvenience this is causing and we will complete repairs as quickly as possible."
A spokeswoman from United Utilities said: "Although Openreach contacted us they were unable to give us the location of the damage and failed to call back with more information. We have not had any customer reports of no water from the area but we have sent an engineer to investigate further."
