Brampton Primary School is situated in the market town of Brampton with just over 200 pupils.

The school is an integral part of the community, recently being described as ‘outward facing’ by Ofsted.

The inspection team were impressed with how quickly the school had made improvements commenting that, “Brampton is a rapidly improving school.

It has transformed root and branch since the 2017 inspection. It provides a good education.”

Children regularly visit local care homes to read, sing or chat to the residents.

Being members of the Brampton Fairtrade Society children learn the value of a fair society for all sharing those ideas with other schools.

Each year we learn about and visit the graves of those local servicemen who died in the first and second world wars.

The school supports other schools in the local area, have numerous groups that use the school such as Brownies, Guides, Beavers, Cubs and Scouts and opened its doors to ‘Brampton Acting Together’ for their inaugural afternoon dance money raiser.

BPS has some of the best resources a school could wish for. Fantastic outside grounds with a trim trail, football field, basketball court and space to run and play.

Early years children have acres of space both inside and out with children having the opportunity to learn and play in inspiring settings.

The school boasts a well resourced ICT suite with green screen, laptops and iPads.

We have our very own museum, a bespoke library and not one but two school halls.

A prospective parent recently commented how vibrant and stimulating the displays throughout the school were.

Parents attend our weekly celebratory assemblies, during which we share pupils’ talents and achievements in different fields from their personal attributes to curriculum areas such as geography, maths and sport.

We are proud of being an inclusive school where all children are provided with the opportunities to achieve their very best. Believe, Persevere and Succeed is at the heart of everything we do.

Having high aspirations and being challenged to be the best we can be, but most of all we have FUN whilst learning.

Encouraging our children to grow in confidence

In the Early Years Foundation Stage we strive to create a warm and stimulating environment where learning is fun. Here at Brampton primary school we have an extensive area, indoor and out allowing Reception and Nursery children to work and learn together.

Our unit led by Nicola Morton is supported by a strong and experienced team.

We engage in activities that promote and extend children’s curiosity and awareness of their world. By providing a balance of child initiated and adult directed experiences children learn through play and exploration.

All of this encourages children to grow in confidence, self-esteem and independence. In the most recent Ofsted report it stated, ‘children get off to a good start,’ and ‘they make good progress during their time in early years.’

The EYFS leader promotes the love of reading and children start phonics from day one. The curriculum is broad and enriched linking to all seven areas of learning, inclusive of all individual needs.

Within the early years we have strong community links and have enjoyed taking children to Bramble Court to spend time with the elderly, sharing books and playing games. Our local PCSO recently visited engaging the children with all her equipment but most of all children enjoyed having their fingerprints taken.

Our children are self-assured and know the routines well, confidently accessing resources that helps them to mature into independent learners. ‘They are visibly happy and enjoying their time in the EYFS,’ Ofsted 2019.

A wealth of learning at Brampton primary

Brampton Primary School is an accredited Centre of Excellence in Financial Education.

The accreditation comes from the Young Money and Young Enterprise group.

We were first awarded the Centre of Excellence status in 2015 and were reaccredited in 2018.

It recognises the excellent financial education that goes on throughout the school.

Katy Walker lead teacher for financial education is a financial champion.

The mathematical element of handling money and calculating different costs is part of the maths curriculum in all year groups. Our curriculum is then enhanced with other aspects of financial education.

This includes whole school money week, enterprise week and careers week.

We have strong links with Santander bank who visit school and work with our children to develop their understanding of savings and borrowing.

Teachers use a range of texts in literacy to help children understand the emotional aspects of money.

During our enterprise weeks classes set up their own businesses by researching products, thinking about their target audience and consider the profit margins from the things they make. Entrepreneurs visit school and share their expertise to inspire the children. Our enterprise sales are always well supported and allow the children to make money for things to spend in their classes. We feel that money management is a life skill that children need for their future. By adding it to our curriculum we are meeting the needs of our children from the second they enter nursery until they are ready to move to secondary school.

Pupils enthusiastic about P.E

Physical Education is one of many highlights for the children of Brampton Primary School. Our children are enthusiastic about P.E. and are always keen to represent their school in the many sporting competitions that take place throughout the year.

Every child at Brampton Primary takes part in two hours of high-quality P.E. each week.

During their lesson’s children learn the fundamental skills required for physical activity and as they progress through school they learn how to develop and adapt these skills to play a range of sports.

The children become confident in games such as: football, netball, hockey, cricket, tag rugby and rounders.

They also develop their creativity by developing a range of sequences in activities such as dance and gymnastics. Other highlights for our children include swimming and outdoor and adventurous activities.

Whilst acquiring all of these skills, our children relish the opportunity to compete against other schools.

So far this year, the children have taken part in three football tournaments and finished runners up in their local event; they won the Brampton Cluster Netball Tournament; finished in 7th place at the Sportshall Athletics competition and 3rd place overall at the annual KS2 Cross Country Competition at Talkin Tarn.

All great chances for children to engage in competitive sports. A year 5 child reports: “Competitions are fun, especially if you win. You feel victorious!”

Another great thing about P.E. at Brampton Primary is that the children have many opportunities to try out and take part in a non-competitive environment. During this academic year, we have attended three festivals and over a quarter of our children have had the chance to participate.

They have thoroughly enjoyed trying trampolining, badminton and lots of multi-skills games. Another year 5 child said, “We like to keep fit and healthy and have fun!”

Last year, we were awarded the School Games Mark which recognises participation and inclusion.
