A WEST Cumbrian school is celebrating after being rated 'Good' by Ofsted.

St Patrick's Catholic Primary School in Cleator Moor was inspected by the watchdog in October.

The report, which has recently been published, praised the school's broad and rich curriculum and said children enjoyed attending the school.

Inspectors said: "A calm learning atmosphere is exemplified through pupils’ wonderful behaviour and attitudes.

"They play well together and leave no one out.

"Pupils said that bullying and name-calling are rare."

The watchdog also told the school it should ensure that staff have appropriate access to high-quality professional development so that they can support teachers to teach their subjects better.

Gayle Wilkinson, headteacher, has been in post since September.

She said: "We are absolutely delighted with our recent Ofsted report.

"It recognises our many strengths and successes as a school.

"Staff here are passionate about the children and learning, our high expectations and goals are commonly understood.

"Our inspection was carried out under a brand new inspection framework, so it was even more rewarding to gain an outstanding outcome for behaviour and attitudes.

"We are so proud of our children who are resilient and are positive and come to school to eager learn.

"It is thanks to our wonderful staff , fabulous children and supportive parents that we achieved this outcome, and as a new headteacher I look forward to our future at St Patrick's."
