A PUB chain has made a u-turn on plans to build a new pub in West Cumbria.
Two years ago Marston’s received approval for a riverside pub to be built next to Tesco in Workington.
However, earlier this year, Lidl submitted plans for a new supermarket to be built on the same site.
The Lidl plans, submitted in August, have not yet been approved by Allerdale council’s planning panel.
But a spokesman for Marston’s said they are no longer interested in the site.
Steve Roberts, land manager for Marston’s said: “Since the original planning application was made in 2017, Marston’s strategy on new build pub developments has changed and as part of this we no longer are progressing with the site.”
It is understood Marston’s is due to open a pub and restaurant in the nearby site at The Green, opposite Allerdale House, where a new Travelodge with a drive-through Costa is being built.
