A man has appeared in court accused of carrying a samurai sword and an axe.
Callum John Newton, 33, of Aldby Street, Cleator Moor, faces a charge of possessing an offensive weapon, a samurai sword, and also an axe. It relates to an incident outside the Better Leisure Centre on Wyndham Street, Cleator Moor on October 28.
Diane Jackson, prosecuting, said Newton also faces a separate charge of possessing a knife in a public place on November 5.
He did not enter a plea for any of the offences when he appeared at West Cumbria Magistrates Court yesterday.
Newton was represented by John Cooper.
He will appear at Carlisle Crown Court on December 16 and has been placed on unconditional bail until then.
