Penrith Mountain Rescue will save the day by helping Santa round the town for a day of sparkle.

A day of delight and winter wonder is to be had as Penrith Sparkle plans are announced. There will be festive fun and games all day.

Starting at 10am on November 30, the town centre will be unveiling the Christmas window display that businesses have decorated as the day moves the there will be a chance to meet ‘royalty’ in the form of Princess Elsa from the Disney film Frozen.

As tradition would have it Santa will be making an appearance even though his reindeer will be taking the time to rest.

Eden FM will be broadcasting live from the town throughout the day, capturing the local choirs and bands who are performing from the bandstand.

A treasure hunt will start at Arragon’s Cycles and children can follow the Jam Jar Lantern clues for the chance to win a prize.

At 3.30pm the Jam Jar Lantern Parade will make its way through the town and at 4pm Penrith will welcome BBC presenter Stuart Maconie to switch on the Christmas Lights.

Dan Harding, director at Penrith Bid, said: “I’d like to thank all the businesses who have sponsored the event, and the locals who have made donations via the Go Fund Me page. We’re looking forward to having a great start to the Christmas season.”

To make your own jam jar lantern, drop into a decorating workshop from 10am to 12 noon on Saturday, November 16, 23 and 30. Just take a clean jam jar to the EVAN Gallery on Corney Square.
