An auction in Carlisle next weekend is being described as “an Aladdin’s cave for the fishing enthusiast”.

It will feature boats, ropes, chains, anchors and other equipment, as well as a wide range of fishing gear. And anyone with items to submit can still do so.

The specialist boats and fishing sale is being held on Saturday, November 16 by H&H Auction Rooms at their premises in Rosehill Industrial Estate.

The sales always prove very popular with buyers and sellers alike, and 50 lots are already lined up. But auctioneer Stephen Farthing says there is still room for more – and is expecting to receive another 100 on the day itself.

“We are looking for lots now and can take entries right up to the day of sale,” he says. “With the success of our early season sale back in March, we are expecting quite a footfall for our autumn one.

“It really is a great opportunity to sell on items that may be cluttering up space at home, or indeed a chance to purchase some real nautical bargains.”

Already lined up for the sale are around 30 rods and reels, some of which are from Hardy of Alnwick, as well as split cane rods and salmon and trout reels.

Equipment includes buoyancy aids, ropes, life-saving equipment, anchors and chandlery.

There is a Topper sailing dinghy, a dinghy with a sail attached, used as a popular racing boat.

But the star of the show is a clam boat. It is ideal for travellers as it can double as a trailer to store camping equipment, and then unpacked at the lake shore. Its estimated price is £500.

Mr Farthing believes the sale will be of particular interest to enthusiasts in boat renovation, those buying from the Lake District for the leisure sector and fishermen from the west coast or Borderlands.

The sale will start at 11am with viewing from 9am on the sale day.
