SACKS of litter have been removed from Harrington beach by a squad of 12 pupils from St James Junior School, Whitehaven and representatives of Cumbrian Cottages.
Mark Whitehouse, regional sales director at cottages.com said: "Cumbria is known for its unspoilt coast and countryside and the clean-up at Harrington beach has helped restore a beautiful part of the coast back to its original beauty.
The company run initiatives throughout the country as part of their Green Scheme Accreditation Programme.
Mr Whitehouse said: “Harrington Beach is used regularly by one of our local Business Development Managers Colin, who lives in the area, and to see the impact of litter along this stretch of coastline was a real concern for him.”
Litter was then separated into recyclable components with cans and plastic bottles being crushed.
Allerdale Borough Council supported by taking away rubbish.
Mark said: “Harrington beach is a beautiful stretch of coast, so to help keep it clean is so important. It’s great to have had St James’ Junior School get involved as well as Copeland Borough Council who also kindly supplied the equipment needed for the beach clean. To have our local Tesco in Whitehaven support us as part of their Community Scheme by providing fruit and drinks for the children taking part was also fantastic.”
