FIRE crews at Carlisle East station in Harraby have paid their respects to remember the fallen with some new additions on their engines.

Poppy stickers have been placed on their vehicles in the run-up to Remembrance Sunday this weekend.

The fire crews will attend the special annual service in Carlisle city centre on Sunday morning.

A series of events are being planned in the Carlisle area in the build up to Armistice Day.

They will include the laying of poppy crosses on war graves at Carlisle Cemetery - a ceremony led by the city’s mayor, Marilyn Bowman - at 10.45am tomorrow (Thursday, November 7).

Friday will see the Festival of Remembrance at St Cuthbert’s Church from 7pm.

The following day, the fundraising Poppy Appeal Coffee Morning will take place at the Old Town Hall from 10am until midday. On Monday - Armistice Day - the mayor and veterans will be joined by representatives of 25 schools for a silence at 11am.
