A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of theft and for the assault of a police officer at a Carlisle supermarket.
Officers swooped on the Sainsbury's superstore on Church Street, Caldewgate, at 5.30pm on Monday, following a report of a man suspected of shoplifting.
A spokesman from Cumbria Police said: "A 27-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of theft from a shop and assault of a police officer."
