ONE of Carlisle’s best known - and most colourful - city centre nightspots has suddenly closed, leaving hundreds of its fans bitterly disappointed.

In a post on its Facebook page, the English Street venue announced it has had close with immediate effect.

The statement told its fans: “It is with a heavy heart that we have to announce that Outrageous will be closed until further notice.

“Thanks to you all for your support over the years.”

The post offers no explanation of why the venue has closed, and nor does it give any hint of whether the closure is temporary or permanent.

Within hours of the message becoming public, hundreds of people had taken to social media to vent their disappointment. Outrageous has long been regarded as one of the area’s most welcoming and tolerant night clubs.

The comments posted on its social media page have underlined just how popular it has been with its punters over the years. They included:

n Sam Hands: “Can’t beat outrageous to end the night.”

n Melissa Sturges: “Probably something to do with cost of the lease and cost of running the place unfortunately.”

n Lucas DJean: “Best place I worked on the doors: you could guarantee something crazy would happen during a shift. I did miss it when I left. Met some great people while there and stayed in touch with them after. Sad news. I’ve nowhere to go now when finishing the night off visiting Carlisle.”

n Daz Burton: “Some good memories from working there. Worked with and met some brilliant people.”

n Natasha Troughear: “I have had some of the best memories in this place the laughs the friends I made the things we have all seen.”

n Vicky Rayson: “Some fun nights in here. Shame.”

Nobody from Outrageous was available for comment.
