Thousands of toilets have been inspected across the UK, and in Cumbria five have won acclaim for their quality and standard.

Loo of the year 2019 is highlighting and improving standards of ‘away from home’ toilet provisions.

The winners in Cumbria have been named as The Woodrow Wilson and The William Rufus, both in Botchergate, Carlisle, as well as The Bransty Arch in Bransty Row, Whitehaven, The Henry Bessemer in New Oxford Street, Workington, and The Chief Justice of the Common Pleas in Bank Street, Keswick. They have each been awarded a platinum rating.

The Woodrow Wilson manager, Andrew Hetherington, said: “We are delighted with the award. Staff at the pub ensure the toilets are in first-class condition at all times, and it is great that this has been recognised by inspectors.”
