A POPULAR science cafe will return to Brampton with a bang after an eight-year absence.

Cafe Scientifique will restart with an inaugural lecture on October 31 in the Brampton Community Centre Cafe.

It is a chance for people to get to grips with the latest technology and science news and share meaningful debate.

Paul Cronin will kick off the series with a talk about the history of explosives testing at the DNV GL Research and Testing site at RAF Spadeadam.

Since 1981, he has been involved with large-scale live trials for the oil and gas industry, as well as some military trials.

Tim Coombe, organiser of Cafe Scientifique, said: “Café Scientifique is a successful national brand and we are delighted to be running ours in partnership with Café Scientifique at Bardon Mill.

“Speakers at Bardon Mill will be invited to present in Brampton the following year and vice-versa.

“Understanding science has never been more important and Café Sci is intended for everyone to enjoy.”

Talks will be held on the last Thursday of the month following the inaugural lecture, and will continue throughout 2020. Tickets are £4 in advance or £5 on the door and can be booked by calling 016977 45023.
