Work could be ongoing throughout the evening to repair a burst water main in Whitehaven.

A number of homes in the town were without water or very low pressure due to the leak on Low Monkwray.

United Utilities engineers were on site around 1.30pm this afternoon to start work.

But an update on their website says the repair is more complex and could take slightly longer than first thought.

The statement said: "Our engineers are still busy repairing the burst water main on Low Monkwray.

"Unfortunately, due to the complex nature of the repair, work will be ongoing throughout the course of the evening."
