HIGH street retailer Bonmarche has collapsed into administration, putting about 2,900 jobs at risk.

The company - which has stores in Carlisle and Workington - has become the latest victim of the pressures facing bricks and mortar retailers after a ‘sustained period of challenging trading conditions’, according to administrators.

The womenswear retailer employs 2,887 staff, including 200 at its head office, and operated 318 stores.

It is the second time in seven years the company has fallen into administration.
