WATER engineer work is due to restart on pipes under one of the main routes into the city centre today.

The work on Warwick Road is expected to take place for around six weeks.

Temporary two-way traffic lights will be in place between Botcherby Bridge and Greystone Road.

A spokesman for United Utilities said: "For safety reasons, there will be no vehicle access from Greystone Road onto Warwick Road during this period. Access from Warwick Road onto Greystone Road is unaffected."

Engineers will be replacing a section of lining material which was installed earlier in the year but when tested did not meet the company's required standard. This is just one part of the £14m project to improve the city's water supply, which has been carried out phase by phase across the city over the past three years and is due to finish in 2020.

Engineers also plan to refurbish another large water main which runs under the opposite side of Warwick Road. This will start as soon as possible after the current work is completed.
