MOTORISTS are being urged to plan ahead as a section of the M6 closes for roadworks.

A full southbound closure will be in place between 9pm tonight (Saturday) and 2am tomorrow morning from junction 40 at Penrith to junction 39 at Shap.

Highways England say the road will be shut for resurfacing work as part of a five-week project on the motorway which started on October 7.

Drivers will be diverted along the A6 during the overnight closure.
