Allerdale's impressive selection of tourist attractions are set to be showcased at a major travel event this week.

Allerdale Borough Council's 'Visit Allerdale' brand will be exhibiting at the Group Leisure and Travel Show on Thursday (October 10), with Tourism Development Manager Joe Broomfield flying the flag for the borough at the Milton Keynes-based event.

He will be speaking to group tour operators both great and small to discuss all-things-Allerdale, and highlight key visitor destinations of the area.

On top of giving out promotional material and plenty of information, Allerdale's virtual reality 360 degree video experience will be on show, allowing exhibitors and guests to get a first-hand feel for some of the activities and locations within the district.

Guest speakers at the event include presenter and producer Julie Peasgood, travel expert Simon Calder and Springwatch's Kate Humble.

Joe said: "Allerdale has a lot to shout about when it comes to tourism and visitor economy, from the Lake District and our stunning coastline to Hadrian's Wall and the Solway Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

"Exhibiting at events such as the Group Travel Show enables us to showcase Allerdale's great locations, attractions and businesses to an influential audience of domestic and international tour operators."

He added: "This is an important aspect of our continuing work to develop and promote Allerdale as an attractive destination for group travel.

"And the offer in Allerdale continues to get better and better. For example, this week we have gained a new Michelin Star chef in Ben Wilkinson from Cottage in the Wood at Whinlatter – we're sure he will continue to be a great success and attract people from far and wide."

The Council is working in partnership with Keswick Tourism Association, who have provided information for groups looking to visit the town. Joe will also be promoting the offer of a local business called Solway Connections, which offers bespoke tours of the Solway Coast.
