A SMALL, friendly medical practice in Langholm, in the Scottish borderlands is keen to recruit a part-time Advanced Nurse Practitioner, Band 7, to join the nursing team.

The intention is to improve the clinical skill mix further, to strengthen the team, and provide a better service to customers.

The Health Centre adjoins the Thomas Hope community hospital, which incorporates GP beds and a day hospital. The Centre was extended in 1990, and now has a list size of approximately 2900, with 900 rural patients scattered over a wide area in the valleys of the rivers Esk, Ewes, Tarras, and Wauchope.

The Practice runs Child Development, Weight Management and Long-term Conditions Management clinics, shared between all the clinical staff. Dr Mark Phillips and Dr Taudevin undertake minor surgery. The attached Thomas Hope Hospital has 12 beds and all partners share in its day to day running.

The team comprises three part-time GPs; Nurse Practitioner; Practice Nurse; and a Health Care Assistant; and the Practice also works very closely with the District Nursing, Health Visiting and Midwifery Staff, who are housed at the same site and with whom regular daily meetings are held.  Attached staff include; Primary Care Mental Health Nurse, Pharmacotherapist and Child immunisation nurse.

  • should hold a recognised Nurse Practitioner qualification with an MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice (Advanced Nurse Practitioner)
  • will be required to work on your own initiative and be a non-medical prescriber. 
  • will be committed to maintaining high standards, ensuring effective communication with patients and with the multi-disciplinary team. 

The role is for 14 hours per week with the option of relief cover. Experience in General Practice would be desired, but not essential.
