A group of teenagers are being hunted by police after they verbally abused and assaulted two 14-year-olds in Whitehaven.
The victims, a male and female, were inside McDonalds with friends at around 7.40pm yesterday (Sunday), when they were approached by six youths.
The youths – all male – were verbally abusive towards the two teenagers, and followed the victims and their friends along Catherine Street and onto Lowther Street.
A police spokesman said: "The teenagers have been spat at numerous times by the youths." He added that the force is now investigating the hate crime.
Police want to speak to two females who were standing opposite Whitehaven Library at the time of the incident, who were believed to have witnessed it.
Anyone with information should call police on 101, email 101@cumbria.police.uk, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111, quoting log 231 of October 6.
