TRAINS running between Hexham and Carlisle may be affected today due to a landslip.

Train company Northern has reported on Twitter that trains could be delayed or cancelled due to the landslip and disruption is expected.

Network rail teams are currently assessing the situation and will update customers as the day goes on.

A Network Rail spokesperson said: “Please be aware there is currently no rail route between Haltwhistle and Carlisle. This is due to a landslip in Wetheral. Our teams are on site assessing the situation and we will update you as soon as possible. Northern are running replacement buses between Haltwhistle and Carlisle. Please check on National Rail Enquiries or directly with your train operator for detailed information.”
