Youngsters at a Whitehaven primary school have been helping support families living with genetic disorders.

Bransty Primary School pupils celebrated and raised awareness for the Jeans for Genes charity throughout the week.

The school held 'Blue Monday' where children and staff wore jeans and donated £1 to the charity. Children also enjoyed blue milk as a refreshment.

An assembly was held, based around the biology aspects of the event, to recognise all the work around the country which helps children of all ages and needs, who require specialist help to ensure they flourish.

The week finished with a blue themed cake sale which children took charge of.

Kathryn Hart, business manager at the school, who organised the event, said: "Our children were very inquisitive and asked very sensible questions, and we celebrated how we are all special and how we have a very inclusive approach to everyone here at Bransty Primary School.

"Due to the amazing support from parents and carers, we were able to raise over £150, which will be donated to the charity.

"We will continue to help support the children and families on an annual basis and always welcome new information to help raise the importance of this special charity."
