One of the north of England’s premier arts and antiques fairs returns in just under two weeks’ time.

The Northern Antiques Fair will be held again at the Harrogate Convention Centre and runs from Thursday, October 3 to Sunday, October 6.

Exhibitors from all over the UK will be there this year with a mix of items from the 1600s to the present day, and estimated prices ranging from £100 to tens of thousands.

“The fair maintains a respected reputation for the outstanding quality of items on display,” says fair director Ingrid Nilson. “The dealers take enormous trouble to showcase their wares in the finest light. Furniture dealers sometimes present room-sets in order to give visitors ideas and inspiration for their homes, often using a combination of antique and contemporary pieces.”

A number of northern antiques firms and furniture restorers turn out every year. But there will be a number of notable new dealers this year, including Hispanic Antiques, who specialise in decorative antiques from different eras of Spain’s rich history, and Burton Antiques, specialists in period furniture, paintings and works of art.

One highlight comes from clock experts Olde Time and is an English Regency bracket clock made by clock and watchmaker and jeweller John Garth of Harrogate in around 1825.

Inspiration for decorating the home is a feature of the fair. Yorkshire based Elaine Phillips Antiques is creating a room-set comprising an 18th century continental table estimated at £2,950, a 17th century Aubusson tapestry that could be worth £1,950 and Arts & Crafts candlesticks..

Paintings by Helen Bradley, Mary Fedden, Marcel Dyf and northern artists such as Arthur Delaney and John Atkinson Grimshaw come from Haynes Fine Art, based in London & Cotswolds. Antique and contemporary sculpture is on offer from Garret & Hurst Sculpture, Rowles Fine Art and Burton Antiques and there are a number of jewellery stands sparkling with a range of items from Victorian to Art & Crafts periods and modern designer names.

A Queen Anne bookcase is expected to sell for £39,000, while a collection of Victorian walking sticks could make £850 to £1,100. Admission to the fair is £7.50 including catalogue and re-admission. For more information phone 01797 252030.
