A BRAMPTON travel agent has been named young agent of the year at a national awards ceremony.

Nineteen-year-old Shannon Waugh, who works at The Travel Team, was crowned at the Travel Trade Gazette Travel Awards.

She began work at the firm, on Front Street, in January of last year, as an apprentice.

Judges said: "Though only 19 years old, Shannon impressed by demonstrating maturity beyond her years, showing an aptitude for crafting complex long-haul itineraries, and steering the agency’s social media strategy.

"A strong sales performance was another factor in Shannon fighting off tough competition in this category. A very worthy winner indeed."

Shannon, a former pupil at William Howard's sixth form, said: “It was a complete shock – never in a million years did I think I would win.

"The adrenaline rush was immense and walking up with everyone applauding was phenomenal.

"I worked extremely hard to get where I am and I do try my hardest to always fulfil my clients’ dreams to ensure they have a holiday of a lifetime.

"I have a true passion for the travel industry and I think this reflects in my growing wealth of knowledge”.

The Travel Team said Shannon did a lot of work behind the scenes which was vital for the smooth running of the travel agency, which included driving the company's social media campaigns.
